'That was the last time I saw her' - 4 August
Emotions ran high and tears were shed during the trial of the alleged "sugarcane" serial killer, in the Scottburgh High Court on Tuesday. A visibly distraught Bongani Ngcobo told the court how Thozamile Taki, a suspected serial killer persuaded him to allow his fiancee, Noxolo Mpande to go with him. It was when Ngcobo described the agony he went through after his fiancee was not reachable on her phone which made some reporters and relatives cry. - IOL website

Victim's cell used for abusive call - 4 August
With tears streaming down her face, the sister of one of the 13 victims of the alleged Umzinto serial killer told the court how a man used her sister's cellphone to say he craved a sexual encounter with her. "I asked him who he was, but he told me it did not matter and that if I wanted her (Makhosi), I should go to the Gale Street Mortuary," Mgobhozi said softly as she sobbed. - IOL website

Judge gives men a dressing down - 9 August
A Durban judge, fed up with the sloppy attire of people appearing in his court, threw two of them out of divorce hearings this week. Judge Greg Kruger ordered the two men, who were dressed in jeans, to come back when they were "properly" dressed. - The Times website
