Lawyers for Dina Rodrigues and four others convicted of murdering
baby Jordan Norton in 2005 appealed against their sentences on
Monday, but the Western Cape High Court sent some of them back to
the drawing board to do research on minimum sentencing. The
appeals were heard by a full bench of judges, Acting Judge
President Jeanette Traverso, Essa Moosa and Andre le Grange. - IOL

'Don't
convert sentence of my tormentor' - 29 July
A Cape Town regional magistrate is still living in fear after
being the victim of a murder conspiracy. Magistrate Wilma van der
Merwe said this in an affidavit handed in to the Cape High Court
on Tuesday in response to an application by the man who plotted to
have her assassinated to have the remainder of his 12-year
sentence converted to correctional supervision. The man, former
dentist Shaheem "Doc" Ismail, tried to have Van der
Merwe killed after she convicted him of the 1997 murder of
security guard Mansur Davids. - allAfrica
