An undercover Scorpions investigator gave detailed evidence in Pietermaritzburg's regional court on Wednesday of how he infiltrated a city's thriving drug syndicate. - IOL website

'You brought about pain and suffering' - 9 July
Gasps of disbelief echoed through Pietermaritzburg's Regional Court 5 on Wednesday as the city's drug queen, Ramjini Chetty, and three co-accused were found guilty and sentenced to lengthy jail terms. Chetty, Joyce Komane, Surychand Maharaj, Bongi Dlamini and Jessendran Pillay, were charged with multiple counts of drug possession, dealing in drugs, racketeering and money laundering. The charge sheet reflects 36 counts relating to all the accused. On one charge of racketeering, Chetty was sentenced to 24 years, 14 years on each of the 18 drug-related charges, three years each on two money laundering charges and two years for forgery. All sentences will run concurrently with the sentence for racketeering. Komane was sentenced to 18 years on the racketeering charge, 10 years on each of two drug-related charges, three years each on two money laundering charges and two years for forgery. Both Maharaj and Dlamini were sentenced to 12 years on the racketeering charge and eight years for each of the 12 drug-related charges. Their sentences will run concurrently with the sentence for racketeering. - IOL website
