Why Mondli Makhanya is a frightened man - 2 July
So, as far as I am concerned, we are still going into battle. Since the Labour Court case further information has emerged which will help me deliver on the promise of airing AVUSA's dirty laundry. Some well meaning people will say that I should drop this case and move on with my life. To them I would say this. Some men play golf, some hold poker evenings and some play squash. I prefer an hour of recreational loathing every morning. I find it puts a smile on my face and sets me up for the rest of the day. Besides, I don't like corporate bullies and it's high time AVUSA's unethical employment activities were subjected to greater scrutiny. Safcec seeks interdict to prevent construction strike - 3 July
The Johannesburg Labour Court on Friday heard arguments for an application to prevent a construction strike that could see work on World Cup stadiums grind to a halt. South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (Safcec) spokesperson Joe Campanella said judgement on the matter would be handed down on Monday morning. - Mail & Guardian website

Court allows SAfrican construction workers to strike - 6 July
About 70 000 South African construction workers are expected to strike on Wednesday, halting work across the country including on stadiums for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, after a court refused to ban the action. The National Union of Mineworkers said in statement on Monday that it had won the case against the South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC), which had last week asked the court to prevent the union from striking. - Guardian website

S Africa strike threatens 2010 stadium deadlines - 6 July
Construction deadlines for the 2010 soccer World Cup in South Africa are under threat after more than 70 000 of the country's construction workers won a court case allowing them to strike from July 8 over wages. - Bloomberg website
