Co-worker
'set woman alight' - 27 June
A Pietermaritzburg woman factory worker is seeking compensation from
the Workmen's Compensation Fund after she was set alight allegedly
by a co-worker whose advances she spurned.
Shanitha Nadasan who was employed by Tsonga Shoes, is being treated
in hospital for second-and third-degree burns after a colleague
allegedly ignited a flammable liquid that was accidentally spilt on
her. Two days after the incident, police arrested her co-worker,
Danny Naidoo.
Midlands police Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said Naidoo
appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court two weeks ago
charged with attempted murder. Tsonga Shoes CEO Bryan Reynolds said
Naidoo had been dismissed after his arrest. But he added : "there
is absolutely no record on file of any grievance being lodged by
this person (Nadasan)".
He said that the matter had been referred to the Workmen’s
Compensation commissioner. - The
