shuts down 100 bank accounts in F State - 24 August
More than 100 bank accounts with R4.7 million in them at First
National Bank were shut down by the Bloemfontein High Court in
terms of a preservation order, a National Prosecuting Authority
spokesman said on Tuesday. NPA regional spokesman Medupe
Simasiku said the order came into effect immediately. A filing
for an application for the seizure of the money by the Free
State Asset Forfeiture Unit was also pending. Simasiku said the
money was allegedly stolen from the Maluti-A-Phofung
municipality in Qwaqwa. - IOL

tackled over child welfare payments

A Free State
social welfare organisation - which struggles to feed children
in its care on R12 a day - has won a landmark court bid forcing
government to cough up. NG Social Services - a non-profit
organisation which supports abused women, children, the disabled
and elderly - took the Free State Department of Social
Development to the Bloemfontein High Court in June for paying
inadequate subsidies. - Times
