David and Goliath battle in court - 23 February
Durban businessman Sean Murphy says the eThekwini municipality ruined his business - and it must pay. The owner of a now liquidated air-conditioning company, Murphy says he would still be in business if it were not for "delays, corruption and unlawful influence" by the municipality and its officials over a tender award. In his Durban High Court bid to sue the municipality for R20-million, he has subpoenaed municipal manager Mike Sutcliffe, mayor Obed Mlaba and a host of other top officials to come to court to explain themselves. - Daily News website

Accused pleads for girlfriend's release - 2 March
The so-called sugar cane serial killer suspect asked the Durban High Court on Tuesday to release his girlfriend who is also his co-accused. "It is clear that this case is against me - please release my co-accused either on bail or any other way. The proposed date for the trial to continue is far and my co-accused has children to look after", said Thozamile Taki. - IOL website
