Home Affairs loses teacher permit case again - 26 October
Zimbabwean schoolteacher Zwelani Ncube has won another victory in his two-year court battle for a work permit, with the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissing an application by the Department of Home Affairs for leave to appeal against a high court order on the permit. The decision could pave the way for similar claims in the future, his attorney, Sarah Sephton of the Legal Resources Centre, said. The appeal court ordered the department to issue a work permit to Ncube and to pay him compensation. - allAfrica website

Judge was biased, says Leigh's killer - 26 October
Donovan Moodley, the murderer of Johannesburg student Leigh Matthews, says he should not spend the rest of his life in prison because he "did not plan to kill" the 20-year-old. He also claims the judge who sentenced him was biased because of the media attention generated by the case and society's outrage at the killing. Moodley pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment for Matthews' murder in July 2004. - Times Live website

More arrests expected in Matthews' murder - 27 October
Detective Piet Byleveld says more people are involved in Leigh Matthews' murder and will be arrested soon. Donovan Moodley, who was found guilty of killing the 20-year-old  Bond   University  student in 2004, has applied for leave to appeal his life sentence. - Eye Witness News website
