  Legal Administration Officer

A Sandton-based law firm requires the services of a legal administration officer. The firm provides an outsourced regulatory monitoring, analysis and advisory service to certain blue-chip corporate clients in the financial services, mining and retail sectors.

The directors and professional staff of the firm wish to appoint a legal administration officer to provide them with support services as outlined below.

Duties

1. Liaising with National Departments, Parliament and publishers such as PMG and Sabinet to determine the status of and obtain copies of new draft Bills, Bills and draft regulations (for the aforementioned industries). The firm is a subscriber to all regulatory products and update services provided by PMG, Sabinet, LexisNexis, Juta and GCIS

2. Maintaining a list of Bills and their parliamentary status

3. Reviewing newly published Acts and Regulations impacting on the aforementioned industries to search for specific provisions dealing with :

a) record-keeping and destruction

b) privacy and data protection ; and

c) information sensitivity, secrecy and security

4. Updating an existing online database compiled by the firm with the aforementioned provisions

5. Performing "marking-up" of Principal Acts (relevant to our clients) to reflect amendments proposed by newly-published Amendment Acts

Requirements

Although a reasonable amount of familiarity with the statutory processes and procedures are essential, an in-depth knowledge is not require.

Experience within a law firm, law library or publisher environment is required.

Accuracy and thoroughness are essential.

Good MS Word skills.

A legal degree is not a requirement.
