All Joy warns of legal action over auditors
- 12 January
All Joy Foods may bring legal action against its former auditors,
Horwath Leveton Boner, after the firm reported the embattled

an unnamed independent forensic auditor to "fully
investigate such an accounting error".
The forensic report later reflected that the accounting errors
"were not an intentional misstatement by
management and that there is no basis for contending any alleged
material irregularity as indicated by Horwath".

Saddam Hussein Trial
Saddam trial judge plans to quit
- 14 January
The chief judge in the trial of Saddam Hussein plans to step
down, a source close to the judge told Reuters on Friday, in a
development that could throw an already turbulent process into
further disarray. "He wants to withdraw," the source said of
Rizgar Amin, who is to preside over the next hearing on Jan. 24.
"He will oversee the next sitting and then announce his reasons
for withdrawing." -

Saddam prefers death by shooting
- 3 January
Saddam Hussein has told his lawyers that he wants to be shot by
firing squad, not hanged, if sentenced to death during his
murder trial, which resumes later this month in Baghdad. Saddam
maintains that he is still commander in chief of Iraq's armed
forces - and that a firing squad is "the right way" to execute a
military leader. -

Stress? Shhhhh . . . - 12 January
I need to move to a far less stressful job, doctor, like fighting
fires, driving trains or teaching a class of rowdies in a sink

Environmental compliance : the next
Sarbanes-Oxley? - 10 January
At first blush, the various global "green" initiatives that will
regulate how manufacturers must build and dispose of their
products seem comparable to the corporate and IT mayhem caused by
the Year 2000 bug and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Existing
restrictions on hazardous substances and waste from electrical and
electronic equipment alone will force companies in the
high-technology sector in particular to spend collectively between
$10 billion and $20 billion. And like Y2K or Sarbanes-Oxley, the
costs of noncompliance may involve criminal allegations, jail time
and large monetary fines. -
